21 Again

A series of 21 abstract images were exhibited in a solo exhibition at The GOPA (Gallery On Park Ave). The concept being for Funky to revisit his roots & beginnings as a photographer & artist over 21 years ago with Funky turning 42 years old at the year of the exhibition (21 again!) & marking Funky's return to art & design after owning & running a Japanese Izakaya (Restaurant/Bar) for the previous 6 years.

The abstract works were inspired by a combination of Funkys’ experiences with scintillating scotomas, Tourette syndrome & Funky's love for Japan & iPhography (Most photos were captured & edited on the iPhone). The double exposures are to convey the organised chaos of Japan that a single photo would not do justice. The blurry slow exposures reflect the tics & unpredictable movements of Tourette syndrome (especially when the tics are in the eyes/head) & the boosted colours are inspired by the insanely colourful & jagged rainbow light that can be experienced when having a scintillating scotoma. Hopefully you can forgive the quality & remember that Funky was going blind at the time. Thankfully Funky's vision has improved since then

21点の抽象作品シリーズは、The GOPA（Gallery On Park Ave）で開催された個展にて展示されました。本展示のコンセプトは、ファンキーが21年以上前の写真家・アーティストとしての原点と始まりを再訪することでした。展示の年にファンキーは42歳を迎え、「21歳をもう一度（21 again）」という意味も込められています。また、過去6年間、日本の居酒屋（レストラン／バー）を経営した後、アートとデザインの世界へ復帰する節目でもありました。

本シリーズの抽象作品は、ファンキーの閃輝暗点の体験、トゥレット症候群、そして日本への愛とiPhographyへの情熱から着想を得ています。多くの作品はiPhoneで撮影・編集されました。二重露光は、一枚の写真では表現しきれない日本の「秩序ある混沌」を伝えるためのものです。スローシャッターによるブレは、特に目や頭に現れるチックなど、トゥレット症候群のチックや予測不能な動きを反映しています。強調された色彩は、閃輝暗点の際に体験される非常に鮮やかで鋭い虹色の光からインスピレーションを受けています。当時ファンキーは視力が大きく低下していたため、画質についてはご理解いただければ幸いです。現在は視力も改善しています。

本号のFLB Zineでは、各シリーズから3点ずつ掲載しています。また、展示作品に加え、ギャラリーでのオープニングの様子などのイベント写真も収録しています。
